Caitlyn

The Deceiving Goddess

Don't act like you're not enjoying this, Kitty Cat! I know you're enjoying this! I know it! The war is simply precious!

Caitlyn shot up in her bed, panting. Passing a hand through her pearl white hair, she lazily looked out of the window of her master bedroom, only to meet with the beige courtains that were drawn over the window. Laying back down, her hair spreading around her on the bed and pillow, the Fire Goddess took the sheets up, covering her face. As much as she herself disliked to admit it, it was just another normal day, with nothing out of the ordinary. Awoken by nightmares portraying the war in which Caitlyn had been forced to participate, followed by memories of the bodies of innocent children, men and women all over the Great Desert, then Xing, then Amestris. That's how hre day always began; With Caitlyn waking up, haunted by the demons of the past.

Getting up, she walked towards the bathroom, grabbing her white dress and cloak, scratching the back of her neck, there, where a black flame tattoo could be clearly seen, engraved on her healthy pale, soft skin forever. A reminder that she went through fire to arrive where she was, and will always be connected to this fire, regardless of how she lived from now on. It was, quite obviously, not the friendliest nor the best reminder, and it most certainly didn't bring her good memories. It brought her memories of burning cities in Xing, ignited by herself. The Flame Goddess, as they called her.

That was the price of being a War Hero.

Taking a long, hot shower to awaken herself up compeletely, the white-haired State Alchemist dryed it quickly, tying it in her usual style with a black ribbon, putting her dress and cloak on. While staring at her own reflection in the mirror, Caitlyn could not avoid it but stare at her red eye, the one that differed from the other one, her pink eye. Why was she destined to be weirder than the others? Why weren't her eyes normal, like everyone else's? Or perhaps her different eye coloration was a blessing, and not a curse? Caitlyn certainly could not know that. Pushing her hair behind her ear, she quickly placed a soft pink lily over her red eye, covering it from sight entirely, hiding her secret behind a lily. Strangely, she had always felt that way when placing the flower over her eye; like she was hiding her biggest, darkest secrets behind the soft pink lily. Which was the reason why she always wore it, amongst others. Hiding her secrets was something she always strived to do. Something she felt necessary. To hide all her demons, behind a simple, beautiful flower.

Taking a small box out of a drawer all while leaving her house, Caitlyn opened the box slowly, taking out the gloves settled within it with care, placing them on her hands, smiling slightly as the thin, yet resistant fabric of her gloves slid on her hands perfectly, covering them and offering her power. She was useless, without these gloves. Completely useless. A simple girl with two transmutation circles engraved on her hands, that, without a lighter or any source that could generate a spark, was useless in battle. How ironic. Years and years of studies and perfection amongs Alchemy, and yet she was useless without a pair of satin gloves. It was very, very ironic. And cursed. The thought of it almost made Caitlyn chuckle. Almost. She was, after all, not a person that could be amused easily, and not by such thing as irony. Heading towards Central, Caitlyn glanced at the silver pocket watch for a second, pursuing her lips at the sight of it. It was the proof that she was a State Alchemist. It was the proof she had participated in the war. It was what allowed her to seek the murderer of her parents and the one who destroyed her childhood. It was both her greatest blessing, and her biggest burden.

Completely absorbed into her own thoughts, Caitlyn headed towards the Alchemist central, hoping to find something to do there, and not just laze around all day, like she had been doing lately due to lack of entertainment, and it was quite not a very pleasant feeling, to sit and do absolutely nothing all day. Quite otherwise, it was horrid, and Caitlyn had forced herself to go somewhere else or she'd snap at someone if she continued unentertained. And she did not want that, most certainly. Back to the topic, however; as she was heading towards the central of the Alchemists, absolutely absorbed into her own thoughts, Caitlyn, distracted as she was, bumped into someone, making her lose her balance and almost fall on her bottom. Gladly, from so many years of training, she managed to keep her balance and avoid falling. Watch where you're going you, as- I mean, excuse me.

Fancy meeting you, miss

''You are sooooooo adorable''

People passing by the small alley between two large apartment buildings, suddenly all turned to face the cap. Waling closer, the first few people, could see
a black haired man hugging a small black kitten very tightly and squealing almost like a little girl. This was not just a weird site, but to a few people there, quite a disturbing one, as none of them had seen a grown up man, cuddling a kitten and acting like a child, in an alley before. The thing that made them especially confused of this, was the state alchemist watch visible in the man's suit's pocket.

Realizing he was being watched, the state alchemist got up, putting the kitten onto his shoulder and walked out of the alley, his expression changed fully. His face held no laughter or fun anymore, it was more serious than the Führer. Intimidation, that's what the people felt as they looked at the man, though he ignore them, had no time for commoners, as he liked to call them. There was no need to talk to them, in his opinion, as they were just riff-raff, that could be ignored if there wasn't another way. So he walked away, through the masses, into the wide streets of central, with a cute black kitten on his shoulder, holding on tightly.

Cats and kittens were the only beings who didn't felt intimidated by the presence of this man and he wasn't cold to them, but to everyone else, he was like a block of ice. Adding to his cold personality, were his looks, hair, as black as the night down to his shoulders, a black suit and blood red eyes, all added to how fearful the man looked. But, he was no one special, just a state alchemist, though in a sense, that made him special, but not in his eyes. This man, nicknamed the Chain Warden or the Chain Alchemist, depending on the person, was just one of the other state alchemist, he held no higher position and served his superiors with loyalty. He was like a perfect soldier, one who would fulfill any order given to him, be it cleaning work or murder, he would complete it.

There was however, something that separated him from the rest and that was his power. This man, named Shairako Iscariot, had been in the possession of a mythical Philosopher Stone for years now, but never had he used it for anything, not even for personal gain. He had wanted to grow strong on his own and rid the world of the miss fits, the ones who kill for personal gain. A goal, that could only be completed by a genocide, had all started from the death of someone, but this goal, wasn't one people would call righteous, though in Shairako's mind, it would help people, even if it paints him as a demon. He was ready to bring himself as the culprit to everything, if it meant fulfilling his goal.

But what was this man, doing in Central, walking aimlessly. Well, to be honest: ''Where the heck am i?'' Shairako, had gotten himself lost. It wasn't unusual for him to get lost in this massive city, as keeping track of where he was going, was slightly difficult due to the amount of thinking he did. And as he had daydreamed about his goals, the man had gotten more lost into the massive streets and colossal crowds of people. He stopped, with a sigh, as the black kitten on his shoulder let out a small meow. Scratching the cat behind it's ear, Shairako looked around, this area was far from his living quarters or even the area he was stationed at. A new part of town, where he had not been yet. It was usual for the man to stumble upon a new area, as all he really did was work, so he never got to see a lot of the city.

''Humph, where am i supposed to go now, eh kitty?'' Giving the kitten a small pat on the head, Shairako started to walk aimlessly through the streets of this block of buildings. There were multiple stores and living areas located here, nothing though, that pulled the man's attention, nothing at all. Not even the people around here seemed interesting. Another sigh escaped his lips, literally looking for something interesting now, something surprising to happen, just so he could get away from these feelings of confusion, boredom and slight stress.

As he was wishing that and walking forward, Shairako suddenly bumped into a white haired woman. He was totally speechless for a second, trying to regain himself, which wasn't working very well. The kitten had jumped off and was twirling around the legs of Shairako and the woman, who he had just rudely bumped into. Hearing the girl speak, Shairako snapped out of it, he politely bowed and looked at the white haired woman: ''I'm terribly sorry miss, i was in my own thoughts and wasn't looking where i was going.'' Due to the bow, Shairako had noticed the little black kitty now sitting on the woman's foot: ''This stray kitten had taken a liking to you it seems.'' He couldn't hold back a small chuckle.

Caitlyn

The Deceiving Goddess

Huffing in annoyance, Caitlyn took a step back in order to examine the male standing before her with more clarity, for, by being close to him, she could only examine the fabric of his jacket; nothing else. His height was the first thing Caitlyn could notice. He was tall, very tall, much taller than Caitlyn herself, although, there was no way to compare the two individuals, for the man that stood before the albino was annoyingly tall, and Caitlyn was rather short. Perhaps not even rather, but very short. Skinny, yet broad-shouldered, Caitlyn supposed that, due to his height and appearance, he wouldn't be very strong, yet, appearances lied, and she herself was the perfect proof of that, as she looked like a fragile, petite aristocrate, which she actually was, that did no damage, which was the main reason as to why in battle many people were atonished as they saw the Battle Mistress hidden within her, yet they realised it too late, when her fist was at someone's face, or when someone was burnt to ashes. It had happened in Xing; the Xingese warriors had laughed at her mercilessly for being petite, slim, and so unfitting between the long lines of muscular, tall, potent Alchemists and Military, yet, little did they know, the title of "The Flame Goddess", which was not her official Alchemist title, obviously, but one that had appeared out of nowhere, had not been given to her in vain. They merely realised it, when she set an entire village on fire with the simple snap of a finger.

Too late.

Back to the newcomer, however; at first sight, one could judge that the man that stood before Caitlyn was a very elegant individual, judging by the suit he wore. Short black hair behind, with a few longer locks to the front, Caitlyn could easily judge that the man was handsome. Perhaps more than handsome. Then she noticed something of particular interest; the man's eyes were, very much like hers, weird. They were red. Similar to Caitlyn's very own right eye. Tilting her head to the side slightly in interest, Caitlyn's hand unconsciously went towards the flower placed over her own eye, yet, just as she placed a finger on the flower, she let her hand fall, stopping herself from doing whatever she was about to do, and snapping out of her thoughts. I guess it's alright. Neither of us was looking, so we both have our fair share of guilt. Caitlyn concluded, shrugging.

Looking down at her feet, she stared at the little kitten that sat on her foot with curiosity, wondering if she should crouch and attempt to pet it, or keep her cold, aloof mask on, and ignore the cat. It was weird, as animals had never been particularly fond of the Flame Empress, and yet this cat seemed to like her. It was a generally new feeling for her. That's... Caitlyn said, scratching the back of her head before crouching and taking the cat into her hands softly, her movements fast, yet cauteous. ... Curious. And adorable... I guess. She said, unsure of her own words. Her attitude and way to communicate with other humans was rather poor, given the fact that she had always tried to keep her distance, and approach only for formalities. Looking at the man once again, Caitlyn noticed yet another trait that she had ignored before, in her first inspection. A silver watch could be seen, a watch that Caitlyn herself knew too well. A watch identical to the one she herself wore attached to the belt on her cloak.

Another State Alchemist.

Huh, you're a State Alchemist. I guess it makes sense for there to be a lot of us around here, given the place where we're at. She said, scratching the cat's head. Well, given the situation that we're basically coworkers, I guess an introduction is pertinent now. I am... Caitlyn. Caitlyn Silvershield, the Pyro Alchemist. Caitlyn pronounced her official title with annoyance, remembering the smile of the Führer when he gave it to her, and his laugh. For him, it had been amusing and fun, but Caitlyn herself had to hold back and attempt not to set him on fire. And that was a rather complicated task.

Lovely meeting you here

A chuckle came from the man, seeing the kitten do what it was doing. It was just so adorable now and Shairako completely ignore the woman's first words. Not on purpose, no, but he was just too distracted by looking at the kitten. He bent down slightly, petting the cat on it's head and taking to it cutely, before getting back up and smiling a little sheepishly at the woman. Hearing her comment on the kitten, that was now even spinning around her leg and nuzzling into it, Shairako couldn't help but chuckle a little more. The girl really seemed out of her comfort zone, with something so adorable happening.

But so was Shairako, he was hiding his confusion and awkwardness with the laughter for now. He was not used to talking to a lot of people or even looking eye to eye to someone. This was all new territory for him, as most times, Shairako stayed very distant and cold, but right now, he just couldn't hold back the laughter, as the kitten was acting adorable and coupling that up with the girl's reaction, chuckles just came out on their own.

The Chain Alchemist had never been seen so happy in front of someone before, most times people were intimidated by the man. Due to his cold nature, unfriendly ways, merciless style of fighting and his appearance in general. It all added up, to create a fearsome individual, that coupled with his power, was a force to be reckoned with. The man, was known in the outskirts of Amestries as the Chain Warden, depicted as a literal Grim Reaper. This was due to his actions during war times, as he was not sent into battle, but kept stationed at the outskirts. His duty was to kill any traitors, escapees or terrorists, even possibly attack convoys of the enemy. The people who worked with him, described his actions as brutal, merciless and unnecessary, but at the same time, Shairako always got the job done, which meant he was safe to do anything he wanted to the poor souls he had to destroy.

Though that was now behind him, at least the hunting of war escapees or traitors. Now, it was more about serving the people, to help them as much as possible, by killing the miss fits, the ones who live off others and hurt people for only their own benefit. Shairako wasn't much different than them to be honest, he wanted to purge the world so others could live free, but this was also as revenge for this evil killing the only man he has ever looked up to. They took something important from him, so now Shairako will take the most precious gift they have, their lives.

But getting back on track, Shairako listened to the girl, named Caitlyn introduce herself. So another alchemist and quite a powerful one at that, Shairako had heard some tales of a very strong flame alchemist, one that fought in the war. He had never really met other alchemists, he would consider equals, but this girl, this girl may just be an equal in power. As he looked back at her, Shairako ran his hand through his hair, just to mess it up slightly: ''It's nice to meet you miss.'' The man bowed a little and smiled: ''I'm Shairako Iscariot, The Chain Alchemist.''

Saying his title, made the man have a small grin on his face, due to the liking he had grown to have towards it. He still preferred Chain Warden, but that was more of a name used by low ranks in the military or commoners, so not suitable for an introduction. Hopefully, just the Chain Alchemist would work for this woman, as Shairako wanted to keep a little anonymous and not be recognized as the terror he was in the outskirts, that would only bring problems with the officials and pacifists in this city.

The man placed his hand into his pocket, clutching a small bad within. He wanted to be sure his treasure was still there and not missing, and it was, which relieved the guy. ''So, as we have already introduced ourselves, may i ask you to join me for a coffee, in that cafe over there?'' He smiled as he looked towards a small coffee shop a few meters to the side of them. ''As State Alchemists, we should know each other better, you never know when we may end up on the same job.'' This was all to create a powerful ally withing Central now, one who Shairako could trust even a little.

Drinking coffee with another human being. Curious. It had been years since Caitlyn last drank coffee with someone else, or really had an informal chat with someone else; all of her encounters with other people were purely formal, and none involved them going to the nearby café. Yet; this situation was different, and given the fact that Caitlyn herself did not face this kind of situation frequently, she was confused now, wondering what to do and what to answer. Tapping her hand against her waist, she pet the black kitten gently, her pink eye never focused on the raven haired man before her, not moving an inch. Quickly running through her possibilites, and the tasks she had to do, Caitlyn concluded that, after all, she had nothing to do, and, therefore, nothing better to do, so accepting the invitation of a handsome man to drink coffee with wouldn't hurt at all. As long as she did not relax too much and end up either trusting him, or revealing her deepest, darkest secret, the one that always remained, hidden behind her lily. Tucking a soft, white lock of her own hair behind her ear, Caitlyn left the cat on the ground, cleaning her silky gloves from any type of hair or anything left by the cat that could destroy her transmutation circles, and looked back at Shairako, tugging on her own pocket watch, absentmindedly. Her biggest burden and her greatest help, Caitlyn could not permit herself to lose her pocket watch, as not only was it the thing that identified her as an Alchemist, but also the key that opened the doors that would allow her to investigate the death of those important to her, who caused it and why. Despite that, there were days in which Caitlyn simply wished to throw the pocket watch in the nearest river and walk away. Or melt it. Same effect, in a sense.

I guess that knowing eachother better would be quite convenient in the case that we did end up in a job together sometime. Caitlyn concluded, letting her cloak fall on her shoulders better and hide her chest from sight. Moving near Shairako, yet still remaining a few meters separated from him, Caitlyn glanced at the café the Chain Alchemist had pointed to, analyzing it for a second. Little, elegant, not too full with people, and apparently quite a cozy and nice place. It would work. Heading towards the Café, she certainly hoped that Shairako was following her, as if he was not, she'd look not just like a very rude woman, but a big jerk. As the duo arrived at the Café, followed by the black cat, which seemed to have taken liking in both Alchemists, the two State Alchemists, or Caitlyn, at least, would make their way inside to a rather separated table in the café, where she would sit down, calmly, careful not to fold her dress in any way. Right. So, what do you wish to know about me, Mr Iscariot?
